Dear Indian Hills Families,

March is Reading Month was a big success at Indian Hills! Thanks to the Romeo Area Kiwanis Club, our students enjoyed reading Judy Moody was in a Mood.  Over 130 students completed the Judy Moody reading challenge and their mood ring and keychain prizes are coming home today.  Students who completed the challenge will get their $10 Scholastic Book Fair gift certificate at the Book Fair in May.

Additionally, today the Romeo Masons will be presenting brand new bikes to the winners of our 3rd and 4th grade Books for Bikes reading raffle challenge. Our 3rd and 4th graders read well over 60,000 pages through the month of March, and today four lucky readers will win bikes!

Our students LOVED the visit from author, Mat Heagerty, this week. What an engaging way to close out our March is Reading Month activities and to keep alive the love of reading (and writing!).  Like Mat told our kids yesterday - you don’t need to get published to make a book. You just need to put your creative ideas to paper and share them proudly with others!

If your child would like a second chance to purchase an autographed graphic novel from Mat Heagerty, you can print and turn in this flyer by Friday, April 17th. Books will be available for pick up at Calliope Bookshelf (66870 Van Dyke, Washington). Additionally, if your child ordered a book in our first order, but did not get to bring it to school on the day of the author visit, Mat has graciously offered to make and send a sticker with his autograph and a drawing that can be placed in the books. He’ll be sending those out to us soon and we’ll get those to the kids.

Additional News and Notes:

Parenting in the Digital World - May 4:  We are pleased to offer our parents and guardians the opportunity to attend a special presentation pertinent to any adult who is responsible for children of any age. There is no shortage of conversation and concern around the impact of devices and the digital world on our youth. Please consider joining us on May 4th to engage on this critically important topic. Presentations are at 6 p.m. (elementary parents/guardians) and 7 p.m. (middle and high school parent/guardians). Both will be held at Romeo High School in the auditorium.

Parent Club Meeting - April 14:  Parent club will meet on Tuesday in the Media Center at 9:30 am. As always, all parents are welcome to attend.

School Store - April 16: The school store will be open at arrival time for grades 1, 3, and 5.

Bagel Day - April 17

1st Grade concert - April 17: 1st graders will perform their ocean inspired spring concert on Friday. After singing for their fellow students at 9:05 am, their families are welcome to enjoy their performance at 2:45 pm. As always, we ask that if parents choose to take their first grader home after the performance, that they please allow their other students to remain in school until regular dismissal time so as not to disrupt their instruction in the classrooms.

Teacher Appreciation Week - May 4-8: The Indian Hills Parent Club is preparing to celebrate our teachers. If you would like to contribute, you can send in a clearly labeled donation with your child or visit here to donate online. More information on this flyer.

Enrollment: Enrollment is open for the 26-27 school year. The steps to complete the process are available at romeobulldogs.org. Y5/K parents should review the information provided under the 26-27 Steps to Enroll Your Child heading as well as the Information for Young Five and Kindergarten Students heading.
